Nutcase Former Prince George’s County Maryland Police Officer Keith Allen Washington Found Guilty And Jailed After Crazed Attack On Furniture Delivery

I previously told you guys about this crazy shooting the furniture delivery guys who came to his house. Well, he's in jail. DAMN Right.

UPPER MARLBORO, MARYLAND - A former Prince George’s County police officer and homeland security official who shot two furniture deliverymen in his home has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and other charges.

Former police Cpl. Keith Allen Washington was deputy director of the county’s homeland security department when he shot two unarmed furniture delivery men in his Accokeek home on Jan. 24, 2007.

Washington, 46, said he fired in self-defense.

One of the delivery men, 22-year-old Brandon Clark, died of his wounds nine days later. His co-worker, Robert White, was seriously injured.

Jurors on Monday acquitted Washington of second-degree murder. But he was found guilty of other criminal charges, including involuntary manslaughter, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of the use of a handgun in the commission of felony.

The jury deliberated for 11 hours before reaching a verdict.

Washington showed no emotion, but the gallery let out a gasp as the jury foreman announced “not guilty” to second-degree murder, the most serious charge.

He mouthed “I love you,” to his wife as he was handcuffed and held without bond until his sentencing.

Brandon Clark’s mother attended the trial and said she believed justice was served.

“I don’t understand all those second-degree and first-degree murders. I just know my son is dead. So I just look for him to get locked up,” Brandon Clark’s mother said.

Washington faces up to 70 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 23.

During the trial, Washington testified that the two men were savagely beating him and that he fired blindly to get them off. White told the jury that the shootings were unprovoked.

State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County Glenn F. Ivey called the case “tragic in every way.”

“Justice is evenhanded and we respect this jury’s decision,” Ivey said in a written statement. “It is important to realize that no one is above the law,”

Twin brothers were arrested Wednesday in connection with robbing dozens of stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Keyontyli and Taleon Goffney allegedly broke in through the roof at night, police said. Rite Aid at Front and Snyder streets was robbed on Monday.

Police said the two men are suspected in at least 35 break-ins. The brothers were caught in Philadelphia, but Delaware County police have filed burglary charges against them, too. Police in South Jersey said they think the pair is behind a string of break-ins in the Garden State.

Investigators said they believe the brothers break in through the roof, and climb down from a rope. "Just over there, they made the hole right here," Young Moon said. The hole Moon pointed out was how the burglars came into Moon's beauty supply store at 9th and Washington. Police said the 25-year-old twins emptied out an ATM machine and the cash register.

"He took money from the register, and change, too. He left only pennies," Moon said.
Philadelphia police said once they robbed Moon's store, the twins went back through the roof to the Wings and More Store next door. There, police said they stole money from the register, and an ATM machine. Investigators said while the pair was robbing the store, an alarm went off. Police were nearby and caught the twins. Store manager Byung Choi came to find a swarm of police officers in front of his store. "Sad, surprised, really angry," Choi said.

Ki Moon said she couldn't help but cry after the burglary because it's been a tough year and a half for her family. A roadside bomb killed the Moon's 21-year-old son, Jae, on Christmas Day 2006 while serving in Iraq and Young Moon had a heart transplant six months ago. They were glad police caught the burglars but they have questions. "Why?" Ki Moon said. "This is not right. This is not right." The storeowners said they each lost thousands of dollars in the break-ins.

Man Taints Baby Formula-And Gets Jail Time

Man Sentenced For Tampering With Infant Formula

A North East man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for tampering with infant formula, which sickened a baby, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Bobby Wayne Rhoades, 29, was sentenced Wednesday to 41 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for replacing powdered infant formula with flour and salt before returning the container to a store, where it was repurchased.

"Bobby Wayne Rhoades jeopardized the life of an innocent child for $22.78," U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein said. "Thanks to the store's video surveillance camera and the work of FDA investigators and state authorities, he will be held accountable."

According to a plea agreement, on Jan. 4, 2006, a Rising Sun resident bought the formula at Wal-Mart in North East for his infant. The man and his wife fed the formula to the baby, who was reluctant to drink the formula. After consuming some of it, the baby vomited.

After their child became ill, the parents called the product manufacturer. While talking with a representative of the manufacturer, the label fell off the container and the parents saw a hole in the container that had been taped over and concealed under the label, prosecutors said.

The contents of the container were analyzed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration forensic chemistry center, which determined it held flour and salt instead of formula.

Feeding too much salt to an infant can be deadly.

In reviewing security videotapes in the Wal-Mart, police found that a man bought a container of the formula at the store on Jan. 1, 2006. Later that day, the formula container was returned to the store by a different man, later identified as Rhoades, prosecutors said. Rhoades identified himself as someone else, and received a refund for the formula.

Rhoades was arrested in February 2006 at a hotel on Route 40 near North East.

While it's enough to watch Prince jam for an hour and a half in his own living room, guests at the tiny singer's post-Oscar bash in Beverly Hills last night were treated to a little something else — private peep shows in the depths of his mansion.

The Purple One provided eight different viewing stations in his wine cellar, where famous friends like Eva Longoria Parker, Sean Combs, Javier Bardem and gal pal Penelope Cruz could watch seven ladies (and one hot guy!) grind on poles.
The stations, visible through small cutouts in a large curtain, had the exotic dancers dressed in various themes, complete with props.

One lady toyed around on a motorcycle and then worked the pole (which our sources say looked good and planted in the cellar, as if it was used frequently) while another room was made to look like a boutique fitting room with a girl trying on (and stripping off) a pair of jeans. Prince, a voyeur? You don't say!

At least he knows how to make people feel at home. The party flowed through the main floor of his house, into the kitchen and to the pool outside. Spotted mingling were Eva — without husband Tony Parker — and Sean Combs (the artist formerly known as Diddy)

A Black lesbian female who was born premature to two drug-addicted and incarcerated parents and ended up in a foster home where she was raised by the hardcore streets of Baltimore. Felicia earned her G.E.D. while serving 8 years in prison for second-degree murder. Yes, she’s not your typical Hollywood story.

Snoop, as she’s affectionately called by her peers, joined the cast of the critically acclaimed HBO series “The Wire” in 2004 after meeting Michael K. Williams who plays Omar Little in the series at a nightclub in Baltimore.

After an invitation to come to the set one day and upon meeting the writers and producers of the series, she was offered a role with the character named after herself. And let me add that Queen Latifah’s character Cleo from the movie “Set It Off” ain’t got nothing on Snoop’s character on “The Wire.” She’s as real as they come.

A lot of her character’s authenticity may come from the fact that Snoop’s life up until the moment that she was cast on “The Wire” had been a life of hustling, drugs, and violence which eventually landed her in prison at the tender age of 14.

She recently chronicled her life story up until the moment she was cast on “The Wire” in her new autobiography Grace After Midnight.

Today, Felicia Pearson is on the verge of celebrating her 28th birthday, a birthday that doctors couldn’t see coming when she was born and had to be fed from an eyedropper due to her premature size. She has seen the conclusion of one of America’s most talked about television series, earned herself fans across the nation, all while representing for Black lesbians from coast to coast, whether she knew she was or not. Now she’s looking forward to her new life as an actress, author, and rapper.

A woman of few but direct words (she gets straight to the point), I recently spoke with her via phone regarding her character on “The Wire”, her future, Black lesbians, and the race for President.

What are your thoughts on The Wire ending and with it your character Snoop?

I'm not going to lie, I'm really going to miss it, I mean I was lucky to get my start on a critically acclaimed show. The writers, the producers, the directors are the best and the cast...oh man, they are my family now. But I can't be mad, cause' it started a new beginning for me. I’m sad it had to end like this but it definitely created opportunities for me.

My character Snoop? It was a lot of fun to play Snoop, but I want to do some roles where people can see that I'm really nothing like that. People are actually scared of me because they think I'm really like that,....so that...I won't miss.

Opportunities? What’s next for you?

Well, I’m on tour right now with my book Grace After Midnight. That’s my main focus and then I plan to work toward turning it into a film and I'm reading for roles for film and TV. Me and Jamie Hector have a youth group called Moving Mountains Inc. based out of Baltimore and New York where we’re getting kids who are interested in performing arts off the streets and into scripts.

... and your music?

Look out for that...(laughs) I'm up for it all... I am still working in the studio to get my music just right and will release something in the future. But I'm starting with features, did a couple already. Just did the Rick Ross video and hosted a week on Rap City on BET. See after doing The Wire, I've got a responsibility to not come short with nothing I do. That's why I'm not rushing to put out my music until it's right.

You’re openly gay and there are so few Black lesbians that are out in Hollywood. How has that been for you?

No problems. If people have one, they keep it to themselves. It doesn’t come around me. Listen, I just feel blessed cause I get a lot of love every where I go so if anybody is out there that has a problem with it, I really wouldn't know.

Did you ever consider not being out about your sexuality once you were cast on The Wire?

Never an option. I am who I am.

What are your thoughts on homophobia in Black America?

No thoughts. It doesn’t come around me. If people have an issue with it they keep it to themselves.

I know you’re from East Baltimore, would you say there are a lot of Black lesbians in your hood?

yes and no.

Can you explain?

I’d say that out of 100 people 35 or 40 percent are Black lesbians.

Do you consider yourself a role model for Black lesbians?

I mean, I don’t know. You’d have to ask them.

Do you attend lesbian events?

Basically right now I’m on the grind. But I do go to lesbian functions when I can from time to time.

Right now politics is everywhere. From the streets to entertainment, it’s what’s being talked about. Going into this Presidential election, what are the issues that are most important to you?

First of all, for a long time I didn't even think about politics since I wasn't able to vote because of a mistake I made when I was 14 years old. I mean I really didn't understand what all the talk was about because to me politicians just talk a lot but don't really ever do anything, So I didn't care, but now that I have become a tax payer and property owner, certain issues have become important to me, l even work with politicians now on anti-violence youth campaigns and literacy programs for youth and I see that some of them a really trying to make a difference. Issues that are important to me are first, the right to vote even if you did time, I mean did I pay my debt to society or not? If I did than let me start with a clean slate and the right to vote. I am also very concerned about education and after school programs.

Undefeated WBS Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr Enters the WWE "WrestleMania XXIV"

*Undefeated WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will hang up his boxing gloves for the moment and step into a wrestling ring as part of WWE's "WrestleMania XXIV" next month in Orlando.

The former "Dancing With the Stars" standout will pocket $20 million for a match against wrestler Big Show on March 30 at the Citrus Bowl. The outdoor event will be carried live on pay-per-view.

"It's entertainment. You have a chance to just be you and do what you want to do," Mayweather said Monday at a news conference.

The athlete said his foray into wrestling was motivated mostly by the "sport's" quick paydays.
"Wrestling takes care of business right on the spot," he said. "Whatever they say they're going to do, they do it right on the spot. There's no waiting three, four, five months. Quick results, quick money. Quick big money, too."

Before leaving the news conference at the Staples Center, Mayweather made it rain for WWE fans in attendance, tossing $100, $50 and $20 bills into the crowd. Some audience members shouted insults to the boxer and chanted the name of hometown hero Oscar De La Hoya.
"I run Vegas and I run L.A. and I will run the WWE," Mayweather fired back.

Meanwhile, TMZ.com is reporting that the flamboyant fighter celebrated his 31st birthday at JET at the Mirage in Vegas Monday night with singer Keisha Cole as his date.

Tracey Edmonds Tells Johnny Gill "Hoe Sit Down"

*Tracey Edmonds called radio personality Doug Banks Monday morning to address his recent telephone interview with Johnny Gill regarding her wedding disaster with former fiancé Eddie Murphy.

Gill was asked to comment on reports that Murphy's mother Lillian got into a heated argument with Edmonds' mom during the former couple's "spiritual ceremony" near Bora Bora. Gill told Banks: "One of Tracey's guests said some things that were inappropriate that triggered everything with the mom, and that's how it all started."
Gill also denied rumors that he is secretly in a relationship with Murphy and was ultimately responsible for the legal ceremony being cancelled.

Banks told listeners Monday that Tracey had reached him by phone that morning, but was under gag order and couldn't discuss the issue because of a confidentiality agreement she signed with Eddie at the end of their relationship.

However her publicist released an official statement regarding Johnny Gill's comments during Friday's interview.

According to Banks, the statement read: "I was very shocked and disappointed to hear of Johnny Gill's false spin on the chain of events surrounding our wedding. His outrageous lies were clearly a very desperate and pathetic attempt to clean up his reputation at my expense. I would appreciate it if Mr. Gill would refrain from continuing to spread false gossip and lies to the public, and allow everyone involved to move on with their lives. We all know the real truth."

The West Baltimore father who confessed to throwing his 3-year-old son off the Key Bridge told police that demons made him do it.S tephen Todd Nelson, 37, of the 2900 block of Walbrook Ave. was charged last week with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, according to court documents.Nelson, who police say ingested household cleaners in a suicide attempt after throwing his son into the Patapsco River on Feb. 3, was listed in good condition last night at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The two had been having custody and visitation issues for the past two years, court records show.They had agreed Nelson would drop off his son after the Super Bowl. TMZ has learned that R & B singer Ne-Yo, aka Shaffer Smith, was popped on Feb. 19 while driving through Cobb County, Georgia. That’s so sick!
Cops pulled Ne-Yo after they observed him driving well over 100 mph in his 2006 Range Rover. He was arrested for reckless driving and for not having a valid license.
Maybe he was rushing to the Hair Club for Men. WTF’s up with that receding hairline? So that’s why he wears hats all the time!

About the Hot Boys Reunion

It was supposed to be the event to attend - a star-studded cap to the NBA All Star Weekend, held in the Big Easy last week. The Hot Boys reunion show was set to happen at New Orleans club Dream on February 17 but was halted after three people were shot outside of the venue.MTV News reports that two women and man were hit by bullets as they stood outside of the club. The three were transported to a local hospital and the club was shut down. Fortunately, the injuries weren't life-threatening. The reunion would have marked the first time in years that Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G. and Mannie Fresh had appeared onstage together since the group’s split. None of them had arrived at the venue by the time of the shooting. New Rocawear ads, featuring the family of a man shot dead by NYC police right before his wedding, were released yesterday, sparking a storm of legal controversy.

The ads, which show the widow of Sean Bell and the couple’s two daughters, were released just one day before a trial started for three officers accused of excessive force in an incident that killed Bell in a barage of 50 bullets.

The clothing company, owned by Hip Hop mogul Jay-Z, has been accused of intentional efforts to prejudice the trial. “This was a planned publicity stunt timed to influence the jury,” said Michael Palladino, president of the Detectives Endowment Association.

Jameel Spencer, chief marketing officer for Rocawear, defended the ads, insisting the goal is to tell stories of people who overcome adversity. “It embodies the spirit of how Rocawear was born - how hip-hop was born,” he said. “We’re trying to highlight different stories.

Bell was shot to death by undercover NYPD detectives in November 2006 after leaving his bachelor party at a New York club. He was set to marry the mother of his two daughters, Jada, 5, and Jordan, 1, just hours later. The mother, Nicole Paultre married Bell posthumously.

Detectives Michael Oliver and Gescard Isnora are charged with manslaughter and could face up to 25 years in prison. Detective Marc Cooper is charged with reckless endangerment and may avoid jail time altogether.

A man was recently arrested after strangling his 14-year-old daughter to death after catching her talking to a boy on the Internet… A crazed Bronx building superintendent confessed Saturday to strangling his 14-year-old daughter and dumping her unconscious body intohe basement furnace, police sources said. The still-burning corpse of Anna Matias was pulled from the furnace that heats the Highbridge building’s boiler just after 11 a.m. Saturday, police and witnesses said. An hour earlier, the victim’s father, Miguel Matias, called 911 to say he had strangled his daughter for using his computer to chat with a boy, the sources said. Matias said he then stripped off her clothes, opened the manhole-size cover to the furnace and threw her body inside, they said. The teen’s clothes remained scattered next to the boiler late Saturday as police searched the furnace for the rest of her charred remains. “It’s such a shock,” building resident Rosa Villavane said. “He was in my apartment just two days ago, and I never saw him mad.”

Tank and his date were leaving The House of Blues after an All-Star event and found that the street they needed to go down was blocked off because of a shooting. Ok, just go another way right? Nope. You know celebs and pseudo-celebs don't think rules apply to them. So words were exchanged, Tank got tased and arrested. He was so messed up he had to be taken to the hospital before he went to jail. Now he's screaming police brutality and the whole nine. He was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He's due in court Feb. 19.

Baltimore Maryland Police Officer William D. Welch To Quit And Receive A Slap On The Wrist For Sex With Child Inside Police Station

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - A Baltimore police officer accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl inside a station house will avoid serving time in prison but will have to resign from the force under a deal made Thursday with city prosecutors.

William D. Welch, 41, entered an Alford plea, in which he does not admit guilt but concedes that the state has enough evidence to convict him. Circuit Judge John C. Themelis entered a guilty plea for misconduct in office and sentenced Welch to a suspended 10-year prison term and three years of supervised probation.

Prosecutors dropped a second-degree rape charge that could have put the Timonium resident behind bars for 20 years.

“He didn’t go to prison. To that extent, I’m happy,” said Warren A. Brown, Welch’s defense attorney. Welch agreed to resign from the Police Department by Monday.

The prosecution’s case was complicated by the disappearance of crucial evidence, including the rape kit, clothing and discarded wet wipes that DNA analysis had concluded contained genetic material from Welch and the girl. The evidence was missing as early as May and has not been found, but it had been tested before it disappeared.

Brown said he had recommended that his client accept the prosecutor’s offer because the DNA evidence pointed to him and the victim “would be kind of credible” on the witness stand. Brown also said the missing evidence would hurt his client’s credibility.

“Baltimore City police officers aren’t really held in the highest esteem by jurors,” he said. “With the missing evidence, the jury might believe that it was cops trying to help another cop.”
Brown has said there was nothing corrupt in the disappearance of the evidence, calling it “a blunder.”

Assistant State’s Attorneys Temmi Rollock and Jennifer Williams declined to comment on the outcome of the case. Margaret T. Burns, a spokeswoman for State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy, said Jessamy approved the plea agreement because it ensured “public safety” by removing Welch from the police force.

Burns said prosecutors were most concerned about the victim’s credibility under cross-examination. The Sun does not identify those who allege sexual assaults.
The alleged incident occurred July 16, 2006, when an officer stopped the girl on Pulaski Highway after seeing her illegally seeking an unlicensed taxi. Police learned that there was an open warrant charging her with prostitution in Baltimore County.

While awaiting transfer to Baltimore County, Welch led the girl into an interview room in the Southeastern District station on Eastern Avenue. Alone with her, Welch flirted, confronted her about the marijuana he said he had found in her purse and told her that he could charge her with a crime, prosecutors said.

According to the victim’s account outlined in court documents, Welch said the marijuana offense would disappear if the girl performed a sexual act. She didn’t respond, according to court documents, and told him that she needed a way to dispose of the marijuana, which she said he helped her dump down a toilet in the station house.

When they returned to the interview room, according to court records, they had sex. The girl told authorities that she didn’t express any objections.

“When it comes to putting a victim on the stand who is credible and can withstand cross-examination and impeachment, we have to have her say, ‘No, I did not want to have sex with him’ — that it was not consensual — in order to get the rape conviction,” Burns said. “There can be no equivocation whether or not it was consensual.”

The girl told Baltimore County police about the alleged encounter after she was taken there.

To all the girlfriends, fiances, lovers and significant others out there, county prosecutors have a message for you: Don't hide your man's drugs.

Two women in the past month were convicted on serious drug charges after letting - and even helping - their boyfriends store large amounts of marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine in their homes.
Both women, one of whom was a Maryland Transportation Authority Police Officer at the time of her arrest last year, now face the possibility of more than a year in jail.

"Being a girlfriend doesn't make you any less culpable," said Kristin Riggin, spokesman for the State's Attorney Office, dismissing a myth that leads many women to help their boyfriends hide or hold drugs at home or during traffic stops.

Officer Hal Dalton, a city police spokesman, noted the law looks only at who possesses the drugs - not who owns them - and Ms. Riggin said that just moving drugs as a favor for someone else can open someone up to felony distribution charges.

"You are just as much of a drug dealer as someone who sells it for money," Ms. Riggin said, stressing girlfriends receive "no special considerations" in Anne Arundel County.
Krystal King, 24, of Laurel, and Angela Greene, 26, a now-former MdTA police officer from Curtis Bay, learned that first hand in the past month.

King pleaded guilty Monday to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after police found more than 15 pounds of marijuana, 145 pills of Ecstasy, two handguns and more than $7,500 in cash in her car's trunk in September. State sentencing guidelines recommend she be locked up for as much as 18 months.

And Ms. Greene, who resigned from her job with the MdTA Police Department Sept. 6 in the midst of the drug investigation, pleaded guilty Jan. 18 to conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute after letting her boyfriend keep $2,900 worth of crack at her house. State sentencing guidelines recommend Ms. Green go to jail for between six months and three years.
According to court documents, neither woman did much with the drugs.

After learning her boyfriend was being questioned by Prince George's County Police Sept. 24, King carried the drugs, guns and money from the apartment they shared to her car outside. When detectives knocked on her door later that day, King quickly confessed to what she did and told police where to find the drugs.

Ms. Greene, who resigned from her job with the MdTA Police Department Sept. 6 in the midst of the drug investigation, simply turned a blind-eye. When police searched her home in August, she admitted only to knowing Michael Tavares Allen, 28, of Baltimore, was a drug dealer and that he had the drugs in a safe in her bedroom. Allen even backed up her story and told police she had nothing to do with the drugs.

While Allen's confession probably helped Ms. Green in court, police and prosecutors said such statements are not get out of jail free cards for the girlfriends.

Officer Dalton said a man might try to take the rap for both of them out of love; that a girlfriend might be more involved in the drug dealing than they let on. "Sometimes I don't know if I believe it," said Officer Dalton. "Chivalry does seem to be alive in that world," added Ms. Riggin.
Vice versa, the girlfriend's handling of the drugs usually doesn't help clear their boyfriend's names.

Allen pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute Jan. 14 and was sentenced to five years in prison. Circuit Court Judge William C. Mulford II suspended all but one year, however, and let him serve 11 months of that year on house arrest.

King's boyfriend, Navarro Stroman, 29, of Laurel, is charged with various felony drug and weapons charges. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to go in front of a jury April 24.

Ms. Riggin said the best way for a girlfriend to stay out of trouble is to stay clear of drugs all together.

"It's not a very wise decision," she said

ACCOKEEK, MARYLAND - A car plowed into a group of street-racing fans obscured by a cloud of tire smoke on a highway Saturday, killing eight people and scattering bodies in the early morning darkness.

At least six others were injured in the gruesome wreck along a flat, isolated stretch of highway about 20 miles south of Washington known for illegal races.
Witnesses said about 50 people were gathered before dawn along Route 210 as two car spun their wheels, kicked up smoke and sped off, said Prince George’s County police Cpl. Clinton Copeland.

Fans had spilled onto the smoky, dark roadway to watch the cars drive away when a white Ford Crown Victoria unexpectedly came up from behind and smashed into them.
“There were just bodies everywhere; it was horrible,” said Crystal Gaines, 27, of Indian Head, whose father was killed.

Police interviewed the Crown Victoria driver, but no charges were pending, Copeland said. Authorities were looking for the drivers of the two cars involved in the race.

The combination of the smoke and the dark morning likely meant the unsuspecting driver could not see the crowd, police said. A tractor-trailer that came by shortly afterward may also have struck someone on the roadside as it tried to avoid the crash scene, according to investigators.
The Crown Victoria, which had a crumpled hood and a partially collapsed roof, ended up down an embankment with one of the victims lodged inside.

Bodies covered by white sheets lay in the road and on the shoulder across a 50-foot stretch of the road later Saturday morning before they were removed by the medical examiner. Shoes were strewn about in the grass, and pair of dark skid marks scarred the highway.

“It’s probably one of the worst scenes I’ve seen,” Copeland said. “This is a situation that could have been avoided, and it’s a very tragic situation.”

About 50 people were watching the race, Gaines said, and she saw the Crown Victoria approach without its lights on. She grabbed her daughter, pulling the girl to safety. But her father, William Gaines Sr., 61, had a broken leg, and was not able to get away in time. Afterward, she found his body on the road.

“He wasn’t breathing; he wasn’t moving,” Gaines said. “His body was in pieces.”
Her brother, William Gaines Jr., was also there. The car came through so fast that “it just ripped people apart,” he said.

“I didn’t even see the car. All I heard was stuff breaking,” he said. Police could not confirm whether the car that struck the crowd had its lights on. The victims’ ages ranged from their 20s to 60s, police said. Seven people were pronounced dead at the scene, and an eighth died later at a hospital. Police said a body found in the car was one of the spectators and not a passenger, as they had previously assumed.

Route 210 is a thoroughfare with two lanes in each direction and traffic lights about every 150 to 200 yards. The road is flanked by some businesses but has little traffic in the early morning, Copeland said. The speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

John Courtney said his brother, Mark, 33, of St. Mary’s County, also was among the dead. He identified his brother from a digital image police had taken. “He liked going to the race track, watching races,” Courtney said. “It’s going to take a toll on my family for a long time.”
Marion Neal feared her 42-year-old brother was among the dead and was awaiting images from the police.

“It’s a tragedy,” she said. “I don’t like racing, but that was his hobby.”
Police said that street races are not uncommon on the stretch of road, but that most occur in the summer and involve motorcycles. But relatives said some of the victims often went to see races held late at night on isolated stretches of road.

“It’s a problem,” said Denee Hines, whose mother owns a hair salon only a few hundred feet from the site of the accident. “Everyone knows about it, but I’ve never heard of it getting this bad.”

Latrell Sprewell's Money is Almost GONE

Former Minnesota Timberwolves guard/forward Latrell Sprewell is having a little financial turmoil:

Former NBA star Latrell Sprewell’s home is up for foreclosure and his yacht sold at auction to help pay off the $1.3 million he owes on the boat, according to court filings. Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year, $21 million contract extension saying, “I’ve got my family to feed,” has apparently fallen on tough times. RBS Citizens NA, or Citizens Bank, filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills in 1994.

In court documents, the bank said Sprewell owed $295,138 in outstanding payments plus interest. Sprewell failed to make his mortgage payments of $2,593 per month from September 2007 to January 2008, the documents said. He hasn’t played professional basketball since turning down the $21 million extension from the Timberwolves during the 2004-05 season. He was making $14.6 million at the time.

Last month, Sprewell’s 70-foot yacht, named “Milwaukee’s Best,” was sold at auction for $856,000 to a man from Milwaukee. It was originally worth about $1.5 million. The bank holding that mortgage, New York-based North Fork Bank, asked that it be seized to pay off $1.3 million in debt. Sprewell’s firm, LSF Marine Holdings, hadn’t made its $10,322 monthly payments on time or maintained the necessary insurance on the boat, the bank said. Sprewell bought the yacht built by the Italian firm Azimut-Benetti in 2003, according to court records.

Father Admits to Tossing Son off the Key Bridge

A West Baltimore man has emerged from a coma and confessed to throwing his 3-year-old son off the Key Bridge into the Patapsco River, Maryland Transportation Authority Police said yesterday.

After his confession Wednesday, police obtained an arrest warrant charging Stephen Todd Nelson, 37, with first-degree murder.

Police have not recovered the body of the boy, Turner Jordan Nelson, but said the search will continue indefinitely.

Turner's mother, Natisha Johnson, said yesterday afternoon that she was prepared for police to charge Nelson with murder but that she still hopes that the boy is alive.

"I'm always going to have that hope," Johnson said. "Until his body is found, I'll still hold on to that hope even though his father blatantly said he did it."

Johnson said the family is planning a candlelight vigil for Turner at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the family's home, 6750 Ransome Drive in Gwynn Oak.

A call placed last night to the home of Nelson's mother was not returned. The family had previously released a statement saying Turner was "Stephen's world, and he was trying very hard to spend as much time with Turner in the daytime as well as on weekends."

Nelson, who lives in the 2900 block of Walbrook Ave., had been in critical condition in an induced coma at University of Maryland Medical Center after ingesting household cleansers in an apparent suicide attempt at his home shortly after the incident Feb. 3, police said.

By Wednesday, Nelson had recovered enough to confess to police that he threw Turner off the bridge, said Marcus Brown, chief of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Brown said at a news conference yesterday that police would charge Nelson with murder when he leaves the hospital. Police are not sure when that will be.

Brown said Nelson is stable. Police are not releasing details of his confession.

Police said that on Feb. 3 they received a call about a man standing on the bridge, flailing his arms and screaming, "No, no, no." Officers arrived in about two minutes, but Nelson had left by the time they arrived, Brown said.

Police sources had said earlier that Nelson's mother called 911 several times that day, saying that her son had thrown her grandson off the Key Bridge. She told police that her son and Johnson have had domestic problems.

In an interview days after the incident, Johnson told The Sun that Nelson had never struck her and was not violent toward Turner. She said she left Nelson about three years ago because she no longer loved him and was intimidated by his drinking problem.

She said she did not want her son growing up around that kind of behavior.

The couple met in 2000 and lived for a couple of years in Rock Hill, S.C., before moving back to their native Baltimore. They were together, she said, until about six months after the birth of their son.

The couple argued over who should have primary responsibility for Turner, according to court documents.

Despite having established visitation rights, Nelson complained in February 2006 that he was being prevented from seeing his son on weekends. A month earlier, Johnson had requested full custody of Turner on grounds that his father saw the child only "when it is convenient for him," documents say.

Johnson did not completely move out of Nelson's home on Janper Court in Baltimore County until she was granted custody of Turner in May 2006.

After leaving Nelson, Johnson moved in with her mother, where she was raising Turner along with her twin 12-year-old nieces.

Brown said numerous local agencies are looking for the boy's body.

"The recovery effort is continuing. Our marine unit continues to patrol the area around the Key Bridge," Brown said.

The gunman who killed five students at a university in Illinois has been named as Stephen Kazmierczak.

The 27-year-old attacker, a former student at the college, wounded another 15 before taking his own life.

Coroner Rusty Miller corrected an earlier bodycount that six students were killed in the rampage, explaining there had been confusion over the fate of a patient taken to another county for treatment.

Dressed in black, the killer had walked on to the stage of a lecture hall, at Northern Illinois University, and started shooting at a packed science class, setting off a panicked stampede.
He fired into the auditorium equipped with a shotgun and three handguns, at one point calmly reloading.

The shooting was the fourth at a US school within a week.

Desiree Smith, a student at the back of the auditorium, said: "People were crawling on each other, trampling each other. As I got near the door, I got up and I started running."

A police spokesman said the gunman was a former sociology graduate at NIU, but was not currently enrolled at the 25,000-student campus, which is about 65 miles west of Chicago.

He added the attacker was "an outstanding student, revered by the faculty" who became erratic after he stopped taking his medication for an undisclosed condition.

There has been no indication, like a note, of a motive for the rampage.

University President John Peters said four people died at the scene, including three students and the gunman, while the other three died at a hospital.

He insisted the university community would "get through this" and said: "We were dealing with a disturbed individual who intended to do harm on this campus."

Sky News Washington correspondent Robert Nisbet said: "There have been four this week alone, which is an extraordinary number."

Police have named some of those killed as Daniel Parmenter, 20, of Westchester; Catalina Garcia, 20, of Cicero; Ryanne Mace, 19, of Carpentersville; and Julianna Gehant, 32, of Meridan.

The man who gunned down five people at Northern Illinois University in a suicidal rampage became erratic after halting his medication and carried a shotgun to campus inside a guitar case, police said Friday.

The man, 27-year-old former student Stephen Kazmierczak, was also wielding three handguns during Thursday's ambush inside a lecture hall.

Two of the weapons — the pump-action Remington shotgun and a Glock 9mm handgun — were purchased legally less than a week ago, on Feb. 9, authorities said. They were purchased in Champaign, where Kazmierczak was enrolled at the University of Illinois.

The other weapons were still being traced.

Campus Police Chief Donald Grady said investigators recovered 48 shell casings and six shotgun shells following the attack in Cole Hall. The gunman paused to reload his shotgun after opening fire on a crowd of terrified students in a geology class.

Kazmierczak, whose first name was earlier listed as Steven, was taking some kind of medication, Grady said.

"He had stopped taking medication and become somewhat erratic in the last couple of weeks," Grady said, declining to name the drug or provide other details.

Correcting information his office released earlier Friday, DeKalb County Coroner Rusty Miller said five students, not six, were killed in the rampage, in addition to the gunman. Miller said the higher victim total was the result of confusion over the fate of a patient taken to another county for treatment.

"There was a miscommunication," Miller said.

Music director of huge Baltimore church charged with child rape

The music director of a popular and influential west Baltimore church is accused of raping and assaulting a 13-year-old female parishioner.

Baltimore police say 32-year-old Timothy Price of Owings Mills has been charged with second-degree rape, assault and child abuse.

Price is music director at Bethel AME Church, which has a congregation of more than 17,000 -- including Mayor Sheila Dixon. Price was arrested Wednesday night and is being held on $1 million bail.

Police say Price had sex with the girl in his car three times between November and January. The alleged encounters took place in a west Baltimore alley and in the parking lot of Druid Hill Park. The girl was 12 years old at the time.

"I'm laying in my bed and all of a sudden I hear Bobby Brown stirring. He started walking over to my night table and he was getting his junk out. As I told you earlier, I spoke with both Keyshia Cole and Jay Jenkins aka Young Jeezy last night by phone. Both Keyshia and Jeezy were humble and pleasant and they wanted my readers to know that they are very devoted to one another.

I first spoke with Keyshia’s manager Manny Halley who put me in touch with Keyshia. Keyshia is on the West Coast preparing for the Grammy Awards which airs this weekend. After exchanging pleasantries, Keyshia told me she was a frequent visitor of Sandrarose.com. She suggested calling Jeezy so he could offer his input on a post I wrote alleging Jeezy said they were no longer a couple. Both Keyshia and Jeezy denied any knowledge of the other woman who claims to be Jeezy’s longtime girlfriend. “Me and Jay spend everyday together except when we’re on the road,” said Keyshia.

Jeezy denied saying he and Keyshia were not together anymore. “We’re not tripping,” said Jeezy, “but when we hear things like that, it’s just crazy. Why would I have a conversation about anything personal with a random person in the club?”

Keyshia added, “I would like for you to let [your readers] know that that was false information. That was never said. We are keeping our business our business. It is what it is. When we’re seen they know what it is. At the end of the day, we’re just focused on our careers right now but at the same time, I’m not saying I’m not with him and he’s not saying he’s not with me. So he didn’t say that.”

Keyshia also cleared up the confusion regarding her sister Neffy who Keyshia said was not the person who contacted me last year offering an interview. “Neffy has never been on your site,” said Keyshia.

In the end, what impressed me most about the couple was the passion they both have for each other. “He’s my dog right there, always,” said Keyshia

Talk Show host Montel Williams has announced that he'll bid farewell to his high-rated daytime talk show at the end of this season. The 51-year-old's self-titled talk show has been on air for 17 years, but when production wraps this spring, it will be for the final time. In a statement released by CBS Television Distribution, Williams expressed his gratitude for lasting on television for almost two decades. "I can't say thank you enough to those who've welcomed me into their homes for the past seventeen years. It has been both an honor and a joy," said the TV talker.

Police in Md. charge son in deaths of parents, 2 brothers

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (AP) Real estate lawyer John W. Browning had been an attorney with Baltimore County's oldest law firm for nearly 20 years. He was a scoutmaster and a leader in his church.

His oldest son, Nicholas, 15, was working toward becoming an Eagle Scout. He built a prayer garden at his church to meet one of the requirements for the designation. And he attended one of the best high schools in Baltimore County.

Nicholas found his father's body on the ground floor of the family's expansive farmhouse-style home when he arrived home Saturday evening. He came out of the house to tell the friends who'd dropped him off, and he called 911.

Police found four bodies inside the house those of John Browning, his wife and Nicholas' two younger brothers.

Police say Nicholas shot them all Friday with one of his father's guns as they slept, tossed the handgun in the bushes nearby, then returned a day later to stage the ''discovery'' of his father's body. He confessed early Sunday to police and was charged as an adult with four counts of first-degree murder, according to police.

The victims were John, 45; Tamara, 44; Gregory, 13, and Benjamin, 11.

Nicholas had not been getting along with his father, police said in a news release, but investigators offered no other details. There was no sign of a confrontation Friday at the house, police said.

The killings left co-workers, acquaintances and neighbors in the quiet Baltimore suburban neighborhood stunned. Someone hung a small, silver-colored crucifix on the mailbox at the Brownings' $528,000 property.

About 50 people mostly teenagers gathered for a candlelight vigil Sunday night in front of the Brownings' home. The crowd stood in silence for about 10 minutes, although there was much weeping.

John Browning was ''beloved and well revered. I'm told this is not the kind of family that this could happen to,'' said the Rev. Frances Dailey, pastor of Timonium United Methodist Church, where the Brownings' Troop 328 met. The Brownings were among the top 10 sellers in a winter fruit fundraising drive, according to the troop's Web site.

John Browning had been an attorney for 19 years with Royston, Mueller, McLean & Reid. He was a partner in the firm, which is the county's oldest law firm and is in the county seat of Towson, about six miles from the family's home.

''John was a wonderful man. He and his wife, Tammy, were very much in love. Together they were caring and loving parents to their children,'' according to a statement from the firm's partners. ''John was also a man of much faith. And he so much enjoyed the outdoors.''

Browning led camping, rock climbing and whitewater expeditions for his Boy Scout troop, as well as leading scouts seeking a personal fitness badge. The family also hosted meetings for scouts' parents at their home.

Two of Nicholas Browning's fellow students drove past the house Sunday afternoon. They started to weep when told by reporters that Nicholas was charged in the slayings.

''It's hard to believe someone could do this,'' said Brooke Kebaugh, 16.

Liz Lazlawbach, 17, said Browning complained about fighting with his father, but ''not about anything violent.''

After the killings, Nicholas spent Friday night and all day Saturday with friends, said Bill Toohey, a Baltimore County police spokesman. Police responded shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday to ''a call of a cardiac arrest,'' according to charging documents. ''A caller reported to 911 that a 45-year-old male was lying on the couch with blood coming out of his nose. He was not breathing.''

Officers found Nicholas' father dead in a ground-floor room and his mother and brothers' bodies in upstairs bedrooms. They also found the gun.

Toohey said Nicholas was formally arrested at 1:05 a.m. Sunday after he admitted to the killings. Nicholas was denied bail Sunday morning at a hearing. He was being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson in a special section for juveniles.

It could not be determined if Nicholas had a lawyer.

His bail will be reviewed Monday in District Court in Towson.

Even if convicted as an adult of first-degree murder, Nicholas is too young under state law to face the death penalty.

The crimes occurred in a county that doesn't often see this kind of crime. Toohey said that the most recent, similar incident occurred in 1995, when a man killed his wife and three children before killing himself. The county had 37 homicides last year, compared with 282 killed in the neighboring city of Baltimore.

Nicholas was a tall, gangly, sophomore at Dulaney High School in the neighboring suburb of Timonium, a school that offers more Advanced Placement courses than any other in the county. Counselors were to be available Monday to meet with students at Dulaney High, said Charles Herndon, a county school spokesman. He declined to say where Nicholas' younger brothers went to school.

Browning's law partners said Browning was an accomplished attorney who ''counseled many businesses on a wide array of issues.'' According to his biography on the firm's Web site, he focused on real estate law and commercial and corporate law.

''He was also a person invested in his family and community,'' the partners said. ''He led his local scout troop. He was a leader at his church. In short, John Browning was a great man.''

Neighbors called each other throughout the night to talk about the tragedy, said resident Mike Thomas. He said one of his sons had been in scouts with one of the Brownings' sons.

''These people would do anything in the world for you just incredible people,'' Thomas said. For instance, the Brownings would pick up debris on the street.

Thomas said he recently sold John Browning a trailer that Browning planned to use for Boy Scout outings. It was parked Sunday in the Brownings' driveway.

A woman accused of leaving eight children with little food and no money while she traveled to Africa to marry a man she met on the Internet has been arrested.

Shanell Monique Mosley, 33, was met by authorities as she got off an Air France jet Monday at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Harris County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. David Crain said Tuesday, January 29, 2008.

Charged with child endangerment and child abandonment for leaving the children in squalid conditions, Mosley was expected to have an attorney appointed for her at a Wednesday court appearance.

After the children were discovered alone in the home in early January, officials learned Mosley went to Nigeria to marry an Internet acquaintance.

When she left for Nigeria on December 31, Mosley told her 15 year-old daughter she would return in a month, child welfare officials said.

Prosecutor John Jordan said Mosley's six children, now in foster homes, were starving and her older children couldn't recall their own birth dates.

Mosley's children are ages 1, 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16, Jordan said. The other two children found in the home were 3 and 4 year-olds the family cared for on behalf of a single father who worked, Jordan said.

Craigslists Ads are off the Hook

A woman was arrested for trying to hire a hitman to kill a woman she didn’t like from a Craiglist Ad.

A woman advertised on the popular Internet site Craigslist for an assassin to kill the wife of a man with whom she'd had an affair, authorities said Saturday.

The ad by Ann Marie Linscott, 49, was posted in November as a generic request for somebody to perform a "freelance" job, court document said. Her true intention was only communicated to those who e-mailed her seeking additional information about the job, the Craigslist CEO said.

Linscott offered $5,000 for the hit, had the name and work address of the woman she wanted dead and she described successful candidates as "silent assassins," according to agents and court documents.

"I've seen some screwy things, but I've personally never heard of anything like this," said Drew Parenti, special agent in charge of the Sacramento FBI office. "For a person to advertise openly for a hit man on Craigslist."

Agents arrested Linscott, whom they say went by Ann Marie and used the simple alias "Marie," on Thursday at her home in Grand Rapids, Mich. Federal prosecutors will ask a judge on Tuesday to make her stand trial in Northern California, where Butte County authorities worked with the FBI to identify the victim and her husband.

A call to Linscott's court-appointed public defender was not immediately returned on Saturday.

Linscott is accused of asking people who responded to her ad to "eradicate a female living in Oroville, California," and she provided additional information on the intended victim, including her physical description, age and employment address. On two separate occasions following the November ad posting, she offered payment of $5,000 upon completion of "the eradication task," according to court documents.

"Out of 550 million classified ads posted over 12 years, this is the first such incident that we're aware of," Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "But again, the ad itself was generic, and we're not a party to subsequent private e-mail communications."

Buckmaster said the arrest demonstrated the vigilance of Craigslist users, who are urged to report fraud and scams on the site to keep it clean.

It's not the first alleged crime ever solicited over the popular online bulletin board. There have been instances of ads posted by prostitutes and a Minnesota woman was killed last year after responding to an ad for a baby sitter. However, authorities and company officials say the murder-for-hire scheme appears to be the first of its kind.

The intended victim and her husband have not been identified, but Parenti said the man acknowledged meeting Linscott through an online college course over two years ago.

Parenti said the two forged an intimate relationship online and met at a hotel room for two days in Reno, Nev., in 2005. Linscott also had met him near the couple's home, about 70 miles north of the state capital, last spring. They continued to communicate by phone and e-mail.

Conn. Man Nabbed When Cops Answer His Ad Trying to Sell Marijuana Online

If you're looking to sell high-grade marijuana, Craigslist may not be the place to do it. A man learned that the hard way when the "buyer" who contacted him turned out to be an undercover officer, Stamford police said.

Police said Steven Zahorsky, 24, posted an ad for "Mary Jane in Fairfield County." The ad offered a half-ounce of "A plus" marijuana for $220 and the same amount of "B plus" marijuana for $160.

Stamford Lt. Jon Fontneau said officers spotted the ad and responded, claiming to be a painting crew interested in buying drugs during a work break.

Zahorsky allegedly agreed to sell three-quarters of an ounce of marijuana at an Interstate 95 rest stop, Fontneau said.

Police said they arrived Wednesday afternoon and called Zahorsky's cell phone. He answered and agreed to meet at the rest stop McDonald's in 15 minutes.

Zahorsky allegedly stopped at the undercover officer's car and took $320 in cash in exchange for the marijuana, police said.

When Stamford and Darien officers arrested Zahorsky, he claimed he was at the McDonald's to eat and had no idea why police were arresting him, Fontneau said.

He said police found $320 on Zahorsky and the undercover officer's number on his cell phone.

They searched Zahorsky's Bridgeport apartment and found three bags of marijuana and one bag of hallucinogenic mushrooms, along with a shotgun, ammunition and a digital scale, Fontneau said.

Zahorsky was charged with several drug charges and released on $10,000 bond. He is due back in Stamford Superior Court on Feb. 13. No one answered the phone at a number listed for Zahorsky.

TMZ.com reports Brandy mom Sonja Norwood is suing Kim Kardashian for making unauthorized charges on her American Express card.

According to a lawsuit filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Sonja Norwood, the mom of Brandy and Ray J, claims in 2004, when Kim K was a stylist, she was given permission to use Sonja’s American Express card to make “one (and only one)” purchase on behalf of Sonja.

According to the suit, Kim allegedly gave the card to other members of her family — Khloe, Kourtney and Robert Jr. The suit claims in 2006, the Ks racked up $62,793.83 in unauthorized charges. And, in 2007, they blew another $57,841.82. The total: $120,635.65!

And get this for audacity: the suit claims the Kardashians charged thousands of dollars in their own stores, Dash and Smooch.

It’s unclear why Sonja didn’t just cancel the card or send out more copies of that tape. I got mines.

Pimp C Died of a Overdose

February 04, 2008. I'm hearing that the autopsy for rapper Pimp C was released yesterday. According to the autopsy, Pimp C died from a combination of sleep apnea and an overdose of Promethazine/Codeine (cough syrup). Pimp C (born Chad Butler) was found dead in his room at the Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood, California on December 4th 2007. According to My Fox Houston, Los Angeles County Asst. Chief Coroner Ed Winter said that Pimp C's death has been ruled as an accident. Promethazine/Codeine is an over-the-counter drug that is celebrated by Houston rappers and often referred to as "Lean".
