Three 6 Mafia Concert @ Towson University in Maryland - Cancelled

A "Welcome Back Concert" for students at Maryland's Towson University, which was slated to feature Three 6 Mafia, has been cancelled over safety concerns:

According to The Tower Light, the Campus Activities Board selected Three 6 Mafia to headline the event but University officials refused because a concertgoer was stabbed the last time the rappers performed in Towson.

"CAB wanted to have a big hip-hop concert early in the school year and they selected Three 6 Mafia based on which performers were available for early September," explained Bridget Chase, coordinator for programming in the office of student activities. "We went through the negotiation process and we were ready to sign a contract. When the students learned that the show wasn't going to happen, they were pretty upset because we worked to plan this and we put a good amount of time into it."

Chase revealed that the aforementioned stabbing occurred at Towson Center three years ago due to lack of proper security. Despite assuring Towson officials that security guards would be present during the event, the University didn't want to risk having the group on campus.
"We would have brought in security and done everything to make sure the event was safe," Chase said. "But the University was concerned that if anything happened, it would have made the University look reckless for letting Three 6 Mafia perform on campus again. [Towson] didn't want to be liable if someone was hurt. They said it was just too risky."
"We met with campus police and members from CAB to talk about this event," said Teri Hall, associate vice president for campus. "We were all clear that we wanted a concert, but after we listened to the pros and cons, I decided to make the decision that we would not bring Three 6 Mafia to campus.

"It wasn't our intention to cancel the concert," she emphasized. "When I heard that [Three 6 Mafia] was the group scheduled to perform, I connected the group's name with the [stabbing] and I was nervous about bringing the group to campus."
The "Welcome Back Concert" was scheduled for September 8.

Ex-con rapper Lil' Kim got pulled over last night in New York when she decided to take her Lamborghini for a spin -- without license plates or a driver's license.Kim (aka Kimberly Jones) was driving on the West Side of Manhattan and went to fill her tank, when cops noticed that her crazazy whip didn't have tags. They also discovered that Kim didn't have a driver's license either. Still, the rapperista wasn't detained by cops, and her lawyer came to the rescue, picking her up -- and driving away in the Lambo.The NYPD confirmed that Jones was stopped, but didn't say whether she was ticketed for driving without a license. - TMZ

2007 Hip Hop Honors Coming to VH!

Ok, the Hottest Hip Hop Honors show I've seen was in 2005. Man, I was my living room doing the Prep, the Inspector Gadget and a little bit of everydamn thing with Dougie Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, and everybody OLD School who performed. This show was sooooo Hot. I taped it, and I still pull it out every now and then to take a lookie look. I couldn't believe Big Daddy Kane got out there and rocked it like it was 1986 all over again. For real, I was sweating, smiling and jamming. LOL

Anyway, it's that time again. The 2007 VH1 Hip Hop Honors take place October 8th on VH1. Tracey (DUI) Morgan is hosting.

Teen Posted Naked Picture of Younger Ex-Girlfriend on MySpace and Goes to Jail

BRADENTON, Florida - A Florida teen who posted a nude photo of his younger ex-girlfriend on her MySpace page was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Anthony D. Rich, 19, was 17 when he posted the photo on the social networking Web site after he and his then 15-year-old girlfriend broke up.

Prosecutors reduced the charges from sex crimes that could have branded Rich a sex offender for life.Rich pleaded no contest Tuesday to child abuse and attempted child abuse. He is expected to begin his sentence in October.

The girl consented to having the photo taken, but Rich did not have permission to post it, authorities said.

R. Kelly's Veins are Gonna Get Him

Prosecutors Say Veins are Evidence

A judge ruled Tuesday (August 21) that the videotape in the R. Kelly child pornography trial can be shown in full when the proceedings begin this September. Cook County Circuit Judge Vince Gaughan said the tape was key evidence in the prosecutors' case, rebutting the argument by Kelly's lawyers that the tape would unfairly bias the jury against him.

Additionally, the prosecution wants to bring in an expert to compare vein patterns in R. Kelly's hands with the hands of the man in the tape, to prove he is indeed Kelly. The defense decried this motion as faulty science, not comparable to matching fingerprints. The judge has postponed a ruling on whether the veins argument will be allowed in court.

The videotape at the center of the case depicts a man the prosecution alleges is Kelly, engaged in sexual activity and urinating on a 14-year-old girl. The teen allegedly depicted in the video is now 23 and refuses to cooperate with investigators. Because she will not admit it's her, the judge has ruled she cannot be referred to as "the victim" in the trial. Instead, she will be called the "state's witness" and/or "alleged victim."

The trial begins September 17. If convicted, Kelly faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Despite recent sightings of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown that appeared to show the divorced couple on good terms, the pair have less-than-complimentary things to say about each other in court documents related to custody of their 14-year-old child, Bobbi Kristina.

In newly released legal papers that were filed last month, Brown, 38, claims, "Since Whitney has been awarded sole legal and physical custody of Bobbi Kris, she has attempted to eliminate me from Bobbi Kris' life."

The former New Edition singer also states, "I did all I could to see my daughter ... I also paid approximately $10,000 for Whitney and Bobbi Kris to live in a nice hotel while Whitney was going through rehab ... I basically lived out of my car."

Pointing an accusing finger at Houston, 44, Brown also says, "I have not seen or spoken to my daughter since early June and I have no prospect of speaking to her or seeing her anytime soon due to Whitney's actions."

In her declaration to the court, Houston claims that Brown has been "almost totally uninvolved in taking care of [Bobbi Kristina]," and that she believes "Bobby is going to try to get child or spousal support from me ... Bobby is fully capable of working and earning substantial sums of money if he would control her personal behavior."

"We have a daughter together and I would like him to be involved in her life," Houston says. "Frankly, I needed to be divorced from him so that I could get my life back on track."

In May, Brown sued Houston for spousal support, child support and shared shared custody.

Despite their legal problems, the couple were seen together earlier this month at Joe's Crab Shack in Alpharetta, Ga., having dinner and even posing for pictures with fans, though Houston's rep said the two were not about to reconcile.

Still, in the legal document, Houston does state, "From the time I moved to California in April 2006 until now, Bobby and I have remained friendly toward each other."

Oprah Interviews Bill Clinton Next Week

Former President Clinton will appear on Oprah Winfrey's TV talk show next Tuesday, Sept. 4, his first interview to promote "Giving," a book on philanthropy and civic action coming out the same day.

Clinton's appearance was announced Monday in an e-mail — "The first interview about his new passion!" — sent to members of Winfrey's book club.

Winfrey, who interviewed Clinton in 2004 for his memoir "My Life," has good reason to think highly of the new book. "Giving" praises Winfrey's "Angel Network," which has donated millions of dollars around the world, from money for schools in Africa to relief aid for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The book also includes comments from Winfrey, who was asked why she started the Angel Network, and another charitable organization, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.

"I wanted to give back what I was given, a sense of worth," she replied. "Everyone wants to matter."
Clinton has other interviews planned next week, including one with Larry King on CNN and with David Letterman on CBS television's "Late Show."

I was cruising the message boards and came across some SUSPECT stuff. They were discussing the new band member on the DL when a DL dude named gqswazey decided to put it out there on Diddy, Q from MTB, Mase and a few others.....Damn....

Allen Iverson's Dad in Jail for Trafficking

Allen Iverson’s stepfather has been indicted on federal drug distribution charges. Michael Andre Freeman, 51, of Newport News, was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court Friday morning for a bond hearing, but the case was postponed by a week to give Freeman time to hire an attorney.Freeman initially was arrested by Newport News police in April after police found crack cocaine in his car during a traffic stop, according to court records.Those charges were dropped this week in favor of the federal prosecution.The federal indictment charged Freeman with possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. He remains in jail pending next week’s bond hearing.

Rocky Mount Mother Gunned Down by Husband

At 2:16 a.m., Sunday morning police responded to a house at the 700 block of Salisbury Drive where Yolanda Dupree; 35, was brutally murdered and found dead in her kitchen with two shotgun blasts to the chest and abdomen.

Police apprehended her husband Mario Dupree, 38, for allegedly killing his wife. He is being charged with first-degree murder.

The police have not released a motive or further details in either case.

Greenville Teen Shot his Online Mistrees After Discovering "She" was a Man

An Internet relationship turned into a deadly rendezvous in October when a Greenville teen shot his online "mistress" after discovering "she" was a man, a witness testified in court Monday.

Josiah Ronald Haughton, 19, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Detron Williams.

His trial started Monday in N.C. Superior Court in Nash County, and three prosecution witnesses testified, including Haughton's co-defendant, 26-year-old Milton T. Blackledge of Washington.

Blackledge told the jury Monday that Haughton believed Williams was a woman, and the two set up a meeting in the early morning hours of Oct. 21 at Williams' apartment complex on Adams Street in Rocky Mount.

While giving the defendant directions via a cell phone as Haughton was en route to Rocky Mount, Williams confessed to Haughton his true sex, testified Blackledge, who was riding with Haughton to Rocky Mount.

Blackledge said that Williams sounded like a woman over the phone.
Haughton continued to the rendezvous point, met Williams outside the apartment, pulled out a gun and shot him, Blackledge testified.

Haughton then exited the vehicle and shot Williams several more times, the witness said.
Defense attorney John Clark is expected to continue his cross-examination of Blackledge this morning.

Judge Toby Fitch is presiding over the trial. Assistant District Attorney Keith Werner is prosecuting.

Blackledge, charged with accessory after the fact, is accused of driving the getaway car.

And 1 Star "Skip 2 My Lou" in Trouble Again

August 28, 2007 -- Queens-born Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston - a streetball legend known on playgrounds as "Skip 2 My Lou" - was arrested early yesterday on charges he slashed a man in a Manhattan nightclub.

It's his second assault rap in three weeks. Alston, 31, suffered his latest legal setback at Club Stereo on West 29th Street at 3 a.m.

The trouble began when a member of Alston's entourage got into an argument with a 41-year-old man.
The fight escalated into a brawl, and at one point Alston slashed the man, sources said.

Alston - who had starring roles with the North American street basketball tour, the And 1 Mix Tape Tour, and the ESPN show "Street Ball" - is already in hot water in Houston.

He was arrested Aug. 5 for allegedly shaking a parking attendant and spitting in his face during a drunken rage after his car was towed.

Alston has said the charges in that case were blown out of proportion by "individuals who stand to profit."

Alston, a Cardozo HS graduate, scored 13.3 points per game for Houston in 82 contests. He was released without bail at his arraignment last night.

His lawyer, Alberto Ebanks, said the man allegedly slashed told a story "virtually impossible" to believe and "this case is motivated by money."

He said two bouncers are among several witnesses ready to testify to his client's innocence.

*Director/producer John Singleton has become involved in a fatal hit and run accident.

It happened Thursday night.

According to TMZ.com, Singleton was driving around 8:00 p.m. on a Los Angeles street when a female pedestrian, not in a crosswalk, suddenly stepped out in front of his car.

Police told the site that Singleton immediately stopped and waited for police and ambulances to arrive. The woman, 57-year-old Constance Russell, was taken to a nearby hospital where she died Friday morning.

According to police, Singleton was not speeding at the time and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Cops say their investigation has concluded and they've determined that this is a "very, very unfortunate accident."

Singleton, who produced the movie "Illegal Tender," opening in theaters this weekend, will not be cited for any violation according to the TMZ report.

The following transpired on the Jamie Foxx radio show (Foxxhole). Karrine said she saw Tigger in a hotel room with another man in a compromising position. Jamie Foxx's staff called Tigger and put him on the air where he - A) vehemently said that Karinne was lying, B) that he could not understand why Karrine would say something like that when he gave her money to support her kid when she was broke, and C) that "he has never been in front of or behind any man." Karrine's response was, "but you were lying on your back." Karrine thanked Tigger for giving her money for her son, but immediately questioned Tigger, "so you're going to lie?

You don't remember Spring Break [year] when you and Tyson Beckford were in the hotel room? You're going to say that's not true Tigger?" The response from Tigger was that she had no proof and "nothing has ever been in his a**"

DMX in Dogg Trouble Too

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies say they removed 12 distressed pit bulls this morning from the Cave Creek home of rapper turned actor DMX.

Earl Simmons, aka DMX, was not at home when the raid occurred. Sources tell 12 News deputies also found a large cache of weapons.

DMX is no stranger to trouble. During his 1999 Hard Knock Life tour he was arrested in Denver on a warrant for charges he stabbed and shot his mother. He was later cleared. In 2002 he pleaded guilty in New Jersey for animal cruelty for neglecting 13 pit bulls. As part of his sentence he did a public service announcement against animal abuse.

Rissi Palmer - First black woman to land a single on the country-music chart in nearly 20 years

NEWSWEEK: Can you first tell me a little bit about your childhood and how it has influenced you as an artist and a person?

Rissi Palmer: I grew up in Sewickley, Pa., a small, very family-oriented town about a half hour from Pittsburgh. Most of my family, though, is from the South, and I had a strong Southern accent. My friends in Sewickley called me "Whitley" from the TV show "A Different World." I was really fortunate to grow up in a house that was filled with music. It was not unusual to hear a country record followed by a rock album and then an R&B record. My mom was a huge country music fan and especially loved Patsy Cline, so my earliest memories were of she and I cleaning the house on Saturday mornings in our pajamas listening to Patsy’s records.

Have you ever been the victim of racism in your singing career or in your life?
I remember the first time I ever felt different. I was in third grade in a private school, and one of my best friends was a white girl. We would play all the time at school, but I was never invited to her house, and she never accepted my invitations to come to mine. Finally, one day I asked her why we couldn’t play after school. She said, very innocently, “My mommy doesn’t want you to break anything at our house. She says black kids aren’t used to having nice things.” I was devastated. But I can say honestly that for the most part I have been treated very kindly in the Nashville country-music community. From time to time, there will be an idiot in the bunch with a negative comment, but overall, I’ve been blessed in that I’m judged primarily on my talent, that’s all you can really ask. I can also say that 95 percent of the comments I get from the public are overwhelmingly kind. A few hateful notes slip in, but truthfully, I had mentally prepared myself for much worse.

There weren’t many African-American female singers when you were younger for you to emulate or look up to, did that ever make you think you might not be able to make it in this business?
It definitely scared me in the beginning of my career. I was like, “I can’t be a country singer. There are no black women country singers. This will never happen.” It was the encouragement of my first managers, partnered with my very defiant “tell me I can’t and I will” attitude that propelled me forward.

How difficult was it for you to turn down a record contract from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis?
It was a very tough decision, but it’s one I’m glad I made. They are geniuses in this business and have accomplished some amazing things. I really respect them, and that’s really what made the decision so hard. When we began discussing the album, it was clear they wanted to go in a more pop, urban direction. While I love pop and R&B, that’s not what I want to sing. I couldn’t imagine having to sing or write about something I didn’t believe in. My genuine love for country music is what motivated my decision.

Michael Vicks Dad Spills the Beans

Michael Boddie, in two sometimes tearful interviews with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week, said some time around 2001 his son staged dogfights in the garage of the family’s home in Newport News, Va. Boddie also said Vick kept fighting dogs in the family’s backyard, including injured ones — “bit up, chewed up, exhausted” — that the father nursed back to health.

Boddie, who is estranged from his son, dismissed the idea that Vick’s longtime friends were the main instigators of the dogfighting operation. “I wish people would stop sugarcoating it,” Boddie said. “This is Mike’s thing. And he knows it. He “likes it, and he has the capital to have a set up like that.”

Daniel Meachum, an attorney for Vick, said his client never mentioned situations described by Boddie, nor discussed Boddie in relation to dog activities. “It’s a disgrace Mr. Boddie, who chose for nearly 22 years not to be part of Mike’s life, would at this time seek to capitalize on his son’s current situation.”

Boddie said he and the Atlanta Falcons quarterback have had a volatile relationship for years and that his son has refused to speak with him directly for the last 2 1/2 half months. Boddie said he is speaking out because he’s been hurt by his son and wife’s failure over the years to correct what he considers inaccurate media reports that Vick grew up without his father present. “I’ve been drug through the mud,” Boddie said. He said he intends to write a damaging book about more of what he knows.

Boddie, 45, lives in a Duluth apartment that his son has paid the rent on for the last three years. Juanita Bynum and Husband Get into FistaCuffs'

Ok, I love Sista Bynum. She can get revved up; and bring the word seriously and she brings it straight no chaser. It's recently been reported that she got into a crazy fight with her soon to be ex. I wish her well. Divorcing is a bitch. Here's the story.

"Juanita Bynum is an evangelist who wrote the very popular sermon, turned book, "No More Sheets: The Truth About Sex". Well, Juanita and her estranged husband, Pastor Thomas W. Weeks III, founder of Global Destiny churches, met up at the airport Renaissance hotel in Atlanta to try to work out their problems. How come it ended up a knock down drag out fight in the parking lot? A hotel employee had to come pull Tommy off Juanita. They say girlfriend was bruised up something terrible, too. Tommy and Juanita married in a televised ceremony in 2002.

Bynum, was released on bond Friday after surrendering on charges that he assaulted his wife.

Weeks spent about six hours inside the Fulton County Jail before emerging at 1:40 p.m., holding a finger to his lips to signal that he had no comment. He climbed into the passenger seat of a silver, four-door Jaguar and rode away.

In a brief hearing at the jail, bond was set at $30,000 on a charge of aggravated assault and $10,000 on a charge of terroristic threats, and a magistrate ordered Weeks to have no contact with Bynum or her sister, Tina Culpepper. Weeks, dressed in a gray suit and bow tie, sat silently in the small jail courtroom, his cuffed hands in his lap.

His next hearing will be Sept. 7 in Fulton County Superior Court.

Bynum, a fiery national evangelist whose sermons empower women to walk away from dead-end relationships, was allegedly struck by her husband Tuesday in a hotel parking lot after the pair had dinner together to discuss a reconciliation.

Police said Bynum, 48, has been whisked away by family as they decide what to do next.

A lawyer for Weeks said he will continue his ministry and try to reconcile with his wife after the allegations are dealt with.

"He is extremely sad over the events that have taken place," said Edward Garland, one of the two attorneys representing Weeks. "I think there is hope on his part that the relationship can get past these difficult moments.

"He has never had any accusation of any sort like this from her or anyone esle," said Garland. "There are a lot of circumstances surrounding these events that will be explained at a later time. He is turning it over to the court system at this point.''

Weeks, Garland said, will meet with "a variety of pastors over which he presides, and with his father, who is a minister, and he's going to make a prayerful decision as to how he proceeds. He's dedicated his whole life to the ministry, and we're very hopeful that he will be able to continue to lead the ministry."

Bynum and Weeks are co-founders of Global Destiny Church in Duluth. They were married in 2002 in a lavish televised wedding that featured a 7.76-carat diamond ring. They separated three months ago, said Bynum's sister, Tina Culpepper.

According to an Atlanta police incident report, Bynum said her husband "choked her, pushed her down, kicked and stomped her."

She told police Weeks "continued stomping" her into the ground until a hotel bell man pulled him away. Police also said Weeks threatened Bynum's life.

Culpepper said the couple was meeting for dinner at Concorde Grill in the Renaissance Concourse Hotel near Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Tuesday night.

Police said the couple had met to work out their differences. Things soured, and Weeks walked out to the parking lot about 10:30 p.m., police said. He then turned back around and attacked her, said Officer Ron Campbell.

Weeks also threatened Bynum's life during the attack, police said. "Anytime you tell a person, 'I'm going to kill you,' that moves it up to a felony," Campbell said.

The bruises found on Bynum also were serious enough to bring felony aggravated assault charges against Weeks.

In a comment posted on her MySpace page, the Pentecostal evangelist said, "I am currently recovering from all of my injuries and resting well ... this too shall pass."

Her publicist, Amy Malone, said Bynum wants to keep the matter private.

"People are interpreting it to mean the two of them were fighting," Malone said. "They were not fighting. She was assaulted."

Clergy across metro Atlanta said they were saddened by the news of the public beating of Bynum, a respected "prophetess" whose star rose under the leadership of Bishop T.D. Jakes. Bynum is one of the leading speakers at Megafast, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of people to metro Atlanta in recent years.

Mixing love and ministerial work can take its toll on relationship for pastors with successful followings, clergy say.

"It is tremendously hard to balance a relationship," said the Rev. Cynthia L. Hale, pastor of Ray of Hope Christian Church. "If you happen to be more successful than your spouse or make more money or have greater prestige that is where the challenge comes in. There are many men who are secure in life, but there are also men who are insecure and they have struggled with having their wives [or girlfriends] excel in ways they don't."

Weeks has retained two lawyers: the well-known Garland, who in the past has represented NFL star Ray Lewis in his murder trial and millionaire James Sullivan, who ordered the murder of his socialite wife; and Louis Tesser.

The couple had a home in Duluth, Culpepper said. Upon their separation, Bynum moved to Waycross, where her administrative offices are located.

Members of a Georgia non-profit group, Love for All People, were working late Thursday to hire two bodyguards to protect Bynum. Culpepper said Bynum was appreciative but that it would not be necessary.

Word of the public fight spread to clergy across metro Atlanta who have either met the couple or know of them.

Once a homemaker, a hairdresser and a flight attendant, Bynum's big break came when televangelist Bishop T.D. Jakes invited her to speak at one of his conferences several years ago.

Jakes, who has worked closely with Bynum, had no comment, his spokeswoman said.

Operators at Bynum's ministry in Waycross, Juanita Bynum Ministries, asked the public "to be in prayer for her."

Culpepper, Bynum's sister, said she is keeping her sister company through this difficult time.

"She is resting well and healing of all the injuries," Culpepper said. "The injuries are not just physical."

Foxy Brown walks into a Manhattan court today.August 22, 2007 -- A Manhattan judge threw Foxy Brown behind bars on a probation violation charge this morning -- a stunning blow to a rascally rapper who's uncanny ability to remain free despite numerous scuffles with the law had made her appear jail-proof.

Foxy -- who is three months pregnant, according to her lawyer -- will spend at least two weeks, until Sept. 7, in Rikers, which has a pre-natal unit for pregnant inmates.

Then she'll be hauled out before the same Manhattan Criminal Court judge for a hearing on charges she has flouted the rules of probation and deserves to be jailed for a year -- the maximum sentence allowed on her original offense, beating two Chelsea nail salon workers during a 2004 fight over the bill.

Probation department lawyer Matilde Leo gave Judge Melissa Jackson four reasons why Foxy has "abused the privilege [of probation] to the point of no return."

First among them, Leo said, is Foxy getting arrested earlier this month for allegedly whacking a Brooklyn neighbor in the face with her Blackberry, giving the woman a loose tooth and a bruised eye in an apparent fight over the volume of Foxy's car stereo.

Her other alleged probation offenses include missing court-ordered appointments with her anger management therapists and probation officer, along with recently getting busted in Bergen County on a traffic infraction when she’d not asked for probation permission to go to New Jersey.

Foxy's lawyer, state Sen. John Sampson, argued in vain that the pending Brooklyn Blackberry-bash charges were weak, and that the performer's life was turning around.

"She's getting married; she's three months pregnant, she signed a record deal two weeks ago, and she is in contract for a reality TV show," Sampson said.

But the judge -- who has had a sometimes stormy, two-year courtroom history with Foxy -- was unmoved. Foxy has publicly derided the judge for having "a disdain for hip hop" the judge once had Foxy cuffed to a bench for snapping her gum and sticking her tongue out at her from the defense podium.

"The defendant is going to be remanded pending her hearing," Jackson announced from the bench. When Foxy stared back, blankly, the judge repeated herself with a slight smile, "That's a remand. Thank you!"

A 23-year-old, transgender AIDS patient died while "shackled to a bed and ignored by workers" in a California detention center for undocumented immigrants, a new lawsuit claims.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the death of Victoria Arrelano was "one of three to come to light this week involving immigration detainees" and is the "the most egregious and recent example of a pattern of medical neglect at immigration detention facilities" nationwide.

Arrelano—a transgender woman who went by the name "Victoria" but was born Victor—had been deported to Mexico in 2003 and had been in detention since mid-May pending yet another hearing. Attorneys for Arrelano's family say that while in custody, Victoria's condition deteriorated to the point that fellow detainees urged staff to provide medical care and "one source close to the case recalled how other detainees repeatedly saw Arrelano vomiting blood and were left to clean it up themselves."

"What happened here is simply an outrage," says Roman Silberfeld, the family's attorney. "This is someone who never should have been permitted to get to this state of decline when relatively simple meds, if available and properly administered, would have avoided this tragedy."

Jealous wife's GPS data leads to murder charge

CNN Reports: NORWICH, New York (AP) -- A man pleaded not guilty Monday to running over and killing his 12-year-old baby sitter in a crime that police say was tracked by a global positioning system his suspicious wife had installed.

George Ford Jr., 42, was charged last week with second-degree murder. He was originally charged with reckless endangerment, but police used the GPS data to file the more serious charges.

Ford told police he was taking Shyanne Somers home the night of July 8, took a detour to show her some horses and accidentally ran her over as he turned his truck around.

Chenango County Sheriff Thomas Loughren has said Ford's route was recorded on a GPS that his wife had installed a few days earlier because she suspected him of having an affair.

Investigators determined he only drove the girl around and spent more than three hours with her behind an abandoned home. Police believe the girl had gotten away from Ford when he drove over her.

Deputies say Ford had a cell phone with him but didn't try to use it to call for help.

Ford's lawyer, Randel Scharf, has disputed the importance of the GPS data and said the case against his client was weak. Ford is being held in the Chenango County jail.

But sources in Chicago's Cook County State Attorney's office tell MediaTakeOut.com that there may not be a trial.That's because, a source close to the case says that R Kelly and State Attorneys are on the verge of reaching a plea deal. MAHWAH, New Jersey (AP) -- Foxy Brown is accused of lying to police during a traffic stop, the latest addition to the rapper's legal woes, according to a published report.

Foxy Brown drove with a suspended license and gave police false information, according to authorities.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was driving a sport utility vehicle on Wednesday when she was stopped for talking on a handheld cell phone and failing to stop at a stop sign, police told The Record of Bergen County.

After a check showed the SUV's registration had been suspended, the 27-year-old rapper gave officers a variation of her real name and a date of birth that was a year off, authorities said.

When a search for the name she gave turned up no records, the officers asked her again for the information, and she gave her correct name and date of birth, authorities said.

The officers then learned that Brown's license was suspended, and she was taken to police headquarters, where she was issued seven traffic tickets and released on her own recognizance.

She was told to appear in municipal court in Mahwah on September 4.

Brown's lawyer, John L. Sampson, did not immediately respond to requests for comment by The Associated Press on Monday night.

The traffic stop came a day after Brown was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a neighbor in New York City's Brooklyn borough.

Police said that the two women got into a fight over the rapper blasting her car stereo and that, when they passed each other on the street a few days later, Brown hurled her BlackBerry device at the woman, cutting her lip and knocking a tooth loose.

Brown is already on probation after pleading guilty to assault in a 2004 dispute over paying for a manicure...

Just like Perez Hilton's post regarding music mogul, Clive Davis and his private sexuality in which he has kept hidden most of his life...Perez had never said his name, but I will.

Honestly, I never thought it was a big deal that Clive Davis was gay. Actually, I thought most knew, just as I did with Merv Griffin. Davis has been married previously and has kids from his previous marriage, like many other stars who have 'beards.' Does this really mean anything anymore when these Hollywood stars have men on the side?

I get TONS of slack for 'outing' celebrities, but why live your life in the closet when you could have a major influence on the gay community as a whole??? Police in Prince Georges County were still looking Sunday night for a man they believe sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl back on August 3, 2007.

On Friday night police arrested 27-year-old John Henri Palmont Jr. of the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike. He was then taken to the Prince Georges Hospital Center to be treated for injuries. While staying in the hospital, Palmont was able to escape police custody by literally walking right out of the front door. A manhunt is underway. Palmont was being treated for injuries he received after he tried to allude police. But a corrections officer walked into his hospital room and gave him release papers apparently meant for someone else.

So… he just walked out of the hospital. Police believe that on August 3, Palmont sexually assaulted a nine year old girl living on the same street. According to the victim, Palmont knocked on her door at around 1:30 in the afternoon. He asked her if he could use her telephone and she let him in. Once he was in the residence, the victim says he displayed a handgun and sexually assaulted her.

Anyone with information on Palmont’s whereabouts is asked to call the Prince Georges County Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit at 301-772-4908.

ROCHELLE, Ga. - A woman was arrested after she called police to help "get her money back" after she was unhappy with the crack cocaine she purchased.
Juanita Marie Jones, 53, called Rochelle Police late Thursday night after she purchased what she thought was a $20 piece of crack cocaine, according to police reports.
She told officers she broke the rock into three pieces and smoked one, only to discover the drugs were "fake."

She took Officer Joel Quinn and Deputy John Shedd of the Wilcox County Sheriff's Office into her kitchen and showed them the drugs, police said.
She was promptly arrested on charges of possession of cocaine.

Terrance Howard does not believe in Pre-Marital sex

38 Year-old divorcé Terrence Howard says he doesn’t believe in pre-marital sex. Via Elle Magazine:

“There were some women who pushed for sex and sometimes, they won,” he confesses. “Afterward, I would feel unclean, like I’d compromised my own values… so I had to let them go.”

If they’re using dry paper, they aren’t washing all of themselves. It’s just unclean. So if I go inside a woman’s house and see the toilet paper there, I’ll explain this. And if she doesn’t make the adjustment to baby wipes, I’ll know she’s not completely clean.

Obsessive child adopter Angelina Jolie says that "I've never hidden my bisexuality, but since I've been with Brad, there's no longer a place for that or S&M in my life."

But Jolie's former lady lover, model/actress/mechanic Jenny Shimizu doesn't buy it. Shimizu and Jolie met in 1996, while working on the craptastic teen film "Foxfire." The Sapphic pair were involved on and off for several years.

"She loves danger and dabbling in the dark side," Shimizu recently told UK tabloid News of the World. "Angelina is an unbelievable lesbian lover. That's where she gets her kicks -- not playing happy family with one man," she added.

Whitney & Bobby Are Not Back Together

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown had dinner together on Tuesday night – but that doesn't mean the former husband and wife are getting back together.

Patrons at Joe's Crab Shack in Alpharetta, Ga., were surprised when Brown and Houston – who divorced in April – showed up together.

Sitting at a table near the window and dressed casually, the couple – whose photograph was obtained by TMZ.com – appeared to be engaged in pleasant conversation during their seafood and salad dinners. They even posed together for pictures with autograph seekers.

"They did eat here," the restaurant's general manager, David Evans, confirms to PEOPLE, "and they seemed to enjoy their meal."

Houston's publicist, Nancy Seltzer, tells PEOPLE that the singer and her ex-husband were in Georgia together. "They were there with their daughter," she said.

Although in May Brown, 38, sued Houston, 44, for spousal support, child support and shared custody, a source close to the two says that the former couple have remained close. In February, they also shared a dinner, for the sake of daughter Bobbi Kristina, 14.

"They're still on good terms," says a relative of Brown's. "They don't hate each other."

Just don't expect a reconciliation anytime soon.

"No," said Seltzer. "They're friends, and they share a daughter. They're divorced."

"[Getting back together] is the furthest thing from their mind," adds the family member. "That's just not in the cards. They've got a history together, so they've got a lot to talk about. It's as simple as that."

Five breast-feeding mistakes new moms make, and how to fix them

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- When Erika Clowes was pregnant, she figured breast-feeding would be a breeze. After all, she'd read all the books and taken all the classes. After an easy birth, she brought home her baby, Charlie, and waited for paradise to begin.

The bagged breast milk filling Erika Clowes' freezer is evidence of how nursing dominates a new mom's life.

But instead, it was a nightmare.

Charlie wouldn't latch onto her breast. She was in horrible pain. She had to wake up every two hours around the clock to pump milk and then feed it to Charlie from a bottle. He had colic and cried nearly all the time. She'd been so devoted to the idea of breast-feeding, but now felt like quitting.

"I felt betrayed and completely deceived, because nobody told me it would be this hard," she says. "It was the darkest time of my life."

Clowes almost became a statistic.

According to new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 74 percent of mothers try breast-feeding, but after three months only 30 percent still exclusively nurse their babies. The study didn't track the reasons the women quit nursing, but experts including Los Angeles, California, lactation consultant Corky Harvey said many women have a hard time nursing and don't know where to turn for help. She says one common reason for quitting is that women mistakenly think they don't have enough milk and decide to give the baby formula. Other women quit nursing when they go back to work, and others stop because family members encourage them to give bottles instead of breast milk.

What kept Clowes from giving up was the "Booby Brigade."

In the middle of the sleep deprivation, hormone rages, and feelings of failure, Clowes figured she had to do something. So she started the Booby Brigade, a group of new mothers near her home in Silver Lake, California, who met online and in person to give each other breast-feeding advice and support. With help from them, and occasionally from a lactation consultant, she was able to nurse Charlie consistently in about four months.

From Clowes, her lactation consultant, and another mother who started a support group, here are five breast-feeding mistakes new moms make, and how to fix them:

Mistake 1: Moms go it alone

Solution: Get out of the house -- fast

Clowes was reluctant to join -- let alone start -- a support group. "I hate that kind of thing," she says. But she did so out of desperation, and found the technical advice (how to latch on, how to deal with nipple pain) and emotional support indispensable.

Anthropologist Katherine Dettwyler, who studies breast-feeding, isn't surprised that women often fail at breast-feeding when they're left alone at home to raise a new baby. "Humans are very social creatures, and most of the world lives in extended families," says Dettwyler, an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware. "You have mothers and grandmothers around who knew everything about breast-feeding. You're not isolated at home for eight or 10 hours a day."

In addition to the Booby Brigade, Clowes joined a support group at The Pump Station, a local store that sells nursing pumps. La Leche League also has support groups. If you don't find a group, start your own, Clowes suggests. "I walked around my neighborhood and would just hand out a card with my name and phone number on it to other moms," Clowes says.

Mistake 2: Moms forget about their successful breast-feeding friends

Solution: Invite one over

While lactation consultants can be wonderful, they can also be expensive -- a visit from one in the Los Angeles area costs $200-$300 an hour, according to lactation consultant Harvey. Amanda Corbin, a mom who started a support group called "Got Milk?" in Tampa, Florida, says sometimes help can be free. She suggests inviting over a friend who's breast-fed successfully, and show her your attempts at nursing. It might be embarrassing to reveal all to your friend, Corbin says, but "we lay down our dignity during labor, so go ahead and lay down your dignity when it comes to the health of your baby."

Mistake 3: Moms assume they don't have enough milk

Solution: Rethink your baby's nursing behavior

Many times, new moms think if baby won't stop nursing, he must not be getting enough milk, so they give him formula. "Sometimes babies just nurse and nurse and nurse -- that's just what babies do," says Harvey. "It doesn't mean you don't have enough milk. It just means you should keep nursing."

Mistake 4: Moms get intimidated breast-feeding in public

Solution: Have snappy comebacks at the ready

Clowes says occasionally mothers in her group reported getting nasty comments when they've breast-fed in public. She suggests having a few retorts at the ready. On her Web site, crankylittleman.com, she has these two suggestions: "If you're uncomfortable seeing my baby eat, you are welcome to cover yourself with this baby blanket. I'll let you know when we're done," and "You think this is something? You oughtta see where he came out!"

Mistake 5: Moms panic when milk doesn't gush out Solution: Realize that at the very beginning, you're not going to see a lot of milk.

Through her work at the Booby Brigade, Clowes found some moms were expecting torrents of milk from the very beginning, and when they didn't get it, they'd give baby a bottle. They didn't understand that right after birth, moms produce small amounts of colostrum, a concentrated, nutrient rich liquid that's measured in teaspoons, not ounces, and is the perfect food for newborns.

Black Women & Prenatal Care

Black pregnant women living in urban areas are less likely to get the proper prenatal care than White women, according to a new study that appears in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved.Researchers interviewed nearly 300 Black women who were hospitalized in Washington, D.C., after giving birth, in 1996 and 1997 to assess when they began parental care visits, how often they kept appointments and what stopped them from going to them. 60% of the women received inadequate care because they only started receiving care after the fourth month of pregnancy or they kept 50 percent of their visits.Research shows that the earlier a woman starts prenatal care, the more likely they will have higher-birth-weight babies.
The lead author of the research, Allan Johnson, associate dean in the College of Pharmacy at Howard University suggests that more funds be invested in the federal WIC program because it would “lead to earlier and more frequent” prenatal care.
We need to be on top of this as a community. One way to ensure that the future is bright for the next generations is to ensure that they start off healthy and on the same footing as their peers.
